Hello! I am Amy Nowlin, your Matagorda County Extension Agent for Coastal & Marine Resources. Over the past few years, I have had the privilege to work closely with the Texas A&M Extension Marine and Agriculture Agents from Matagorda and Calhoun Counties. I was a Wetlands Educational Specialist and served on the Calhoun County Marine Advisory Committee. I recently directed the Palacios -YMCA Environmental Summer Camp, which was funded with a three-year grant from the Matagorda Bay Mitigation Trust. My previous experience within the Texas Legislature allowed me to gain valuable insight on many coastal and natural resources topics. Additionally serving as a Governmental Affairs Liaison with the Texas Department of Transportation, I was heavily involved in the Corpus Christi district’s hurricane emergency management, bridge replacement projects, and the Port Aransas Ferry operations.
I earned my B.S. in Public Relations from the University of Houston-Victoria and am finalizing my M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Leadership through Texas A&M International University. I hold two Texas teaching certifications in Special Education and Life Science. I reside in La Ward with my husband and beloved pets! I am a nature enthusiast by heart and a life learner. As a certified Texas Master Naturalist, I am dedicated to volunteer services and outreach opportunities. The uniqueness of Matagorda County continues to be a main attraction for the great state of Texas.
Matagorda County is a natural treasure! Miles of sandy beaches, great recreational fishing, diverse wildlife, and hundreds of species of migratory and native birds just scratch the surface of what this Texas Gulf Coast region has to offer. Matagorda Bay also serves as a rich resource for numerous industries including commercial and recreational fishing, and the commercial oyster farming industry. The protection and sustainability of our bay system is essential to a healthy and vibrant economy!
