College Station, Texas — Megan Towery joins Texas Sea Grant as the new Communications Director.
Towery will provide leadership for the planning and implementation of a communications program that enhances the understanding and stewardship of Texas’ coastal and marine resources. In this role, Megan will oversee the conceptualization, editing, and production of Texas Sea Grant print and multimedia materials, and ensure their distribution across print, broadcast, news, and social media channels. She will work alongside a team of two Communications Specialists to support the overall mission of Texas Sea Grant.
Prior to joining Texas Sea Grant, Megan gained extensive experience in communications across various roles. As the Communications Manager for Technology Services at Texas A&M University, she was responsible for creating and managing a wide range of marketing materials across multiple platforms, overseeing social media strategies, and ensuring the successful execution of various communication projects.
In her role as Communications Manager for the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station Turbomachinery Laboratory, Towery managed internal and external research communications for the Turbomachinery Lab and engaged with graduate mechanical engineering students and faculty on their research projects. Towery also led the development of marketing content and promotional materials for industry trade shows, including signage and event promotion. She led all public relations activities and maintained media partnerships.
Earlier in her career, Towery served as a Sr. Communications Specialist for the A&M System, where she crafted human resources and benefits messaging, worked with vendors on communicating their programs to the employees and staff of the A&M System, and supported communication efforts for the employee wellness initiative. Towery began her career as a Marketing Specialist at a marketing agency, where she honed her skills in developing comprehensive marketing strategies and communications plans for multiple clients, and also developed and designed websites.
Towery holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a minor in Marketing and Support Services from East Texas A&M University (formerly Texas A&M University-Commerce). She also earned Bachelor’s Degrees in Anthropology and Communications from Texas A&M University, equipping her with a strong foundation in both the social sciences and communications.
Outside of work, Towery has always been passionate about the ocean. As a child, she dreamed of becoming a marine biologist and still enjoys spending time on or in the water throughout the year. An avid follower of Shark Week and shark research, she finds the mysteries of the ocean deeply fascinating. Towery believes, “There is still so much to learn about the ocean and how people engage, enjoy, and use it for the livelihood of both them and the animals and organisms that call it home.” She is excited to make an impact for the state of Texas through her work at Texas Sea Grant.
