Extension and Outreach
Texas Sea Grant helps strengthen coastal communities by engaging volunteers in a variety of projects and programs that promote environmental stewardship, education, and conservation.
Volunteers play a vital role in supporting initiatives such as marine debris cleanups, habitat restoration, wildlife monitoring, and outreach efforts that raise awareness about coastal and marine issues.
From helping maintain monofilament recycling stations to assisting with educational events and community workshops, volunteers contribute valuable time and skills that make a meaningful difference along the Texas coast. Texas Sea Grant occasionally seeks volunteers to support specific research, outreach, and conservation activities, offering opportunities for individuals to get involved, learn, and give back to their local environment.
By working alongside local residents, community groups, and partner organizations, Texas Sea Grant fosters a culture of stewardship that benefits both people and coastal ecosystems. FEATURED PROJECT: MRRP
This initiative engages volunteers to help reduce marine debris by installing, maintaining, and monitoring recycling bins for discarded fishing line along the Texas coast. Volunteers also organize cleanup events to collect monofilament, preventing it from harming wildlife such as birds, turtles, and fish. Through this program, Texas Sea Grant fosters community involvement in protecting marine habitats and promoting responsible fishing practices.
