Supporting Coastal and Marine Science through Education

In K–12 education, Texas Sea Grant collaborates with teachers and school districts to enhance science curricula through hands-on learning experiences, educational materials, and professional development workshops. These efforts aim to engage young learners in marine sciences and encourage interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers.

At the university level, Texas Sea Grant provides funding opportunities, internships, and fellowships to support students pursuing degrees in marine-related fields. These opportunities foster the next generation of scientists, resource managers, and educators by offering real-world experience in research and community engagement.

Beyond traditional classroom settings, Texas Sea Grant conducts outreach and extension activities that provide coastal residents with access to science-based information. Through workshops, publications, and one-on-one consultations, the program equips community members, including fishermen, coastal planners, and local governments, with knowledge that supports responsible decision-making and enhances community resilience.

In summary, Texas Sea Grant supports education in coastal communities by fostering scientific literacy, promoting STEM education, preparing students for marine-focused careers, and empowering local residents with knowledge to sustain and protect coastal resources. Through these efforts, the program contributes significantly to the long-term health and vitality of Texas’s coastal regions.
