Texas Sea Grant supports marine- and coastal-related research at universities across the state through a competitive grant program. It also supports regional research in collaboration with the other Gulf Sea Grant programs.

Research Funding

Research supported provides information of practical importance to Texans and meets the needs of our coastal communities. Funding priorities include: Healthy Coastal Ecosystems, Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture, Resilient Communities and Economies, and Environmental Literacy and Workforce Development.

Requests for proposals (RFPs) for state projects are issued every two years.

Funding for Students

Texas Sea Grant provides many opportunities for students interested in studying coastal and marine environments.

A fellowship established for postgraduate students to provide on-the-job education and training opportunities in coastal resource management, policy or coastal issues.

A summer internship opportunity for undergraduate students in any field of study with an interest in coastal and marine sciences and who may be in a community that may be underserved and/or underrepresented.

The NMFS-Sea Grant Fellowship Program in Population and Ecosystem Dynamics expects to award at least four new Ph.D. Fellowships to students who are interested in careers related to marine ecosystem and population dynamics, with a focus on modeling and managing systems of living marine resources.

The scholarship, which honors the late Associate Director and Extension Program Leader at Texas Sea Grant, is awarded to outstanding graduate students in the oceanography program.
