Kate de Gennaro is a Research Associate for the Community Resilience Collaborative, which is a partnership program between Texas Sea Grant and Texas Target Communities. She conducts research activities related to coastal communities affected by Hurricane Harvey. These activities include interviewing households and decision makers and documenting a needs assessment on topics such as hazard risk, preparedness, evacuation and disaster recovery.
De Gennaro received her master’s degree in Urban Planning from Texas A&M University with a focus on hazard mitigation and resilience; she also received the Certificate in Environmental Hazard Management. During her second year in the master’s program, de Gennaro worked directly with the communities in Aransas County and contributed to the development of their Floodplain Management Plan under an assistantship with Texas Sea Grant. This earlier experience has provided an opportune connection to the communities affected by Hurricane Harvey.
