The National Academies/GoMRI/Sea Grant collaborative workshop series, “Regional priority setting for health, social, and economic disruption from spills,” will kick off December 4 with a two-day event in Houma, Louisiana. This workshop will bring communities together to learn from each other about physical, mental, social, economic, cultural, and spiritual impacts from oil spills in the Gulf of Mexico. Emergency responders will explain the existing framework for preparing and responding to spills, researchers will discuss public health findings, and community representatives will share their experiences.
